Messaging after a hire

Your messages are private What you can do in a thread Why messaging is hire-gated

Last updated July 18, 2026

When a client accepts a bid, QuoteHive automatically opens a private message thread between the client and the hired contractor: one thread per awarded job. You’ll find your conversations under Messages in the header.

Your messages are private

Every message you send, in job chats and marketplace chats alike, is encrypted where it’s stored. You and the other person read the conversation normally, but nobody who might see the raw database can read your words. QuoteHive staff moderating a report see a redaction notice, not your message text; the only exception is a properly authorized legal request, which is a separate, logged, restricted process.

What you can do in a thread

  • Send text messages: the other side gets a notification (you control this in your notification preferences).
  • Attach files: a photo or document per message (PDF/PNG/JPG/WebP, up to 8 MB). Downloads are access-controlled to the two participants.
  • See a typing indicator when the other side is writing.
  • Archive a finished conversation or delete it from your list: both are private to your side; a deleted thread resurfaces if a new message arrives.

Why messaging is hire-gated

Threads exist only between a client and the contractor they actually hired. Contractors can’t cold-message clients, and clients aren’t flooded by bidders: the bid itself (message + info package) is the pitch. Contact details are exchanged at the point of hire, consistent with PIPEDA.
